BCMCS Youth Theatre

BCMCS Youth Theatre is for children and young people of ages ranging from 10 to 18 years, and has two very simple aims:

– To introduce young people to the world of theatre.
– To give young people a worthwhile and enjoyable hobby.

The members are trained by experienced adults in general stagecraft, acting, singing, movement and dance, and during the show are usually accompanied by a small orchestra, with professional lighting and sound. There is no audition to join the Youth Theatre, although auditions are normally held for those interested in taking principal roles in the show. Youth membership costs £10.00 per year, which goes towards paying for insurance, hire of the rehearsal premises and the costs involved in staging a musical show.

The adults in charge are mindful of the need for a secure environment for young people. Their welfare and safety are ensured as far as is reasonably and humanly possible.

Each year the Youth Theatre performs a musical show in March or April.  Rehearsals are held at Eagley Junior School, Chapeltown Road, Bromley Cross, Bolton between 6.45 pm and 8.30 pm on Wednesday evenings, beginning in mid–September.  Parents or guardians are responsible for the prompt arrival and collection of their children, although no child will ever be left unattended.

The rehearsal premises are warm, bright and friendly with ample car parking space and refreshments are always available.

Youth Theatre members gain in confidence, make new friends, learn a lot about stage-work, and generally have a lot of fun!  Many have moved on to take principal roles in the society’s Musical and Choral works, and others are learning the arts of Production, Choreography and Musical Direction. Some have taken up Drama at college and even entered the professional world.

Most will find a hobby for life, so why not give it a try!

They called their new society St. Edmund’s Catholic Operatic Society, but it had been in existence for less than a fortnight when its Committee was approached by the Committee of St. Edmund’s Dramatic Society, who suggested the two society’s merge….
